These directions are intended for instructors who wish to copy an entire Peerceptiv course (including all assignment links) into a current Canvas course. This process allows Peerceptiv to create assignments in the Canvas course that are already linked to the corresponding Peerceptiv assignments.
Notes:
- If you and your students are accessing Peerceptiv through Canvas, please always log into Peerceptiv through Canvas. You will not be able to add assignments or sync with Canvas unless you start in Canvas.
2. The assignments in the Canvas course and the Peerceptiv course will link automatically IF the assignment names are identical. You can compare the previous semester's Peerceptiv assignment names with the current semester's Canvas assignment names before copying the Peerceptiv course.
Recommended: Add Peerceptiv to the Navigation Bar
You are able to add Peerceptiv as a Course Navigation link where all Peerceptiv assignments can be launched from the same link. This is useful for students in courses with many Peerceptiv assignments as it launches the students into the course dashboard in Peerceptiv with all assignments available for their access.
- Navigate to Course - Settings - Navigation.
- By default, Peerceptiv will be at the bottom of the navigation list as a disabled link.
- To enable Peerceptiv being listed in the Course Navigation bar, simply drag the Peerceptiv navigation item into the list in the desired position and click Save.
Note: If you add Peerceptiv to the course navigation bar in Canvas, students will go to the course-level dashboard in Peerceptiv. This screen will show them all published Peerceptiv assignments in the course but will NOT take them directly to the assignment task that is currently due. If you add Peerceptiv to a specific assignment in Canvas, then students will go directly to that assignment in Peerceptiv.
Copy a Peerceptiv Course
Instructors or IDs can copy an entire Peerceptiv course with all assignments into the new Canvas course without having to copy individual assignments.
- Either click on Peerceptiv from the left navigation bar OR go to the first Canvas assignment that uses Peerceptiv. Click on the link to open Peerceptiv.
That will take you to the new course creation screen. Click Copy an Existing Course.
- Search for the course you want to copy and then click on the course name.
- Update the course name, if needed, add the information for the current course, keep the mode the same, and then click Create. Please note that you can only create sync mode courses from a copied sync mode course or async mode courses from a copied async course.
- Look at the assignment names listed on the page that appears, these are the assignments that were created in the Peerceptiv course. If the assignment names listed match your Canvas assignment names, then they'll connect automatically when you click the assignment links in Canvas. If the assignment names listed here do not match the assignment names in Canvas, please change your Canvas assignment names to match the Peerceptiv assignment names.
- Return to Canvas. Click on each of your Canvas assignments that are linked to Peerceptiv (click the grey box that says to load in a new tab at the bottom of the assignment page) and make sure it connects to the right Peerceptiv assignment. Once you go the correct Peerceptiv assignment, edit the Peerceptiv assignment deadlines to make sure they're correct and match the Canvas assignment deadlines.
At this point, if your assignments connect properly, you're done! If not, continue reading for troubleshooting steps.
Troubleshooting Steps
- If you click on the Canvas assignment link and don't go to the right Peerceptiv assignment, you should either edit your Canvas assignment names so they match the Peerceptiv assignment names or go to the LTI connections page and try to manually connect the assignments which should be linked. After you have opened Peerceptiv, click on the course name at the top right of the navy bar and select LTI Gradebook Connections.
- Then click on the dropdown next to Select a Grade Book Link Item. If there is an assignment listed, select the associated assignment and then click Connect. If there is no assignment listed, you can create a new grade book line item. If needed, you can adjust the Grade Book Max Score that will appear in the LMS after it is connected.
- After you connect all of the assignments, please check the assignment settings, especially the deadlines. These settings can be checked in Peerceptiv without navigating back to Canvas if you click on the course name at the top right of the navy bar and select All Assignments, but we recommend clicking in from the Canvas assignments to make sure all of your assignment links are working and connected properly.
- If you created new assignment links, return to the Canvas course and refresh the page or navigate to Assignments. You will see the assignment links for any newly-created assignments in the Canvas course. If you do not see them listed in the Assignments tab, first scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and look there and then check your existing modules. If you used a copied Canvas course, Peerceptiv will search for assignments with the same name in Canvas and may have automatically linked your existing assignments in Canvas with the Peerceptiv assignments.
11. Click on the assignment name and then Edit Assignment Settings on the far right.
12. Then, check that the assignment description (if any), points, due date, and assignment group are correct. Important: Edit the Canvas-side assignment settings of the newly created assignments to load the Peerceptiv assignments in a new tab. Loading Peerceptiv assignments in a new tab is important for optimal functionality. Click Save after making these changes.
13. If needed, move your assignments to the correct Canvas module.
Final Step: Check for Duplicate Assignments in Canvas
If you created additional assignments during the troubleshooting steps above, please make sure you didn't create duplicate Peerceptiv assignments in Canvas.
Any duplicate assignments will likely appear at the bottom of the assignments tab in Canvas.
If you do find duplicate assignments in Canvas, you can click the three dot menu on the right for the duplicated assignment and delete it if needed. You should only delete assignments that do not launch to Peerceptiv. Do not delete the assignments that correctly launch to Peerceptiv, as deleting them will break the connection with Peerceptiv.
