Please note that Peerceptiv is an external tool available under certain licensing arrangements and only where approved by your school or organization’s instructional technology office. For questions about how to get Peerceptiv at your institution, please contact Peerceptiv Support.
You MUST create the assignment in Brightspace first and then in Peerceptiv. This is true if you are creating a new Peerceptiv assignment or if you are copying in an assignment that you have previously used. Please read and follow these directions carefully in order to have a valid assignment link and gradebook item.
Create a Peerceptiv Assignment
You can add a Peerceptiv assignment to any section of course Content you’d like. Click Content or navigate to the page where you want to add your first assignment. Then, please select Existing Activities and then External Learning Tool to get started.
Next, you’ll click "Create New LTI Link" at the bottom of the list of previously existing links.
NOTE: You must create a new LTI link each time you create a new assignment.
On the next screen you will enter the title of the assignment. This should match the title that you used in the syllabus and the assignment title that you will use in Peerceptiv. Then, enter the following URL to allow for grade pass back: https://api.peerceptiv.com/lti/launch (users at institutions in North America or Europe) or https://sg.api.peerceptiv.com/lti/launch (users at institutions in Asia). If the Tool box does not auto-populate after adding the URL, please contact your system administrator or support@peerceptiv.com. Then, click Create and Insert.
Once the assignment is created in Brightspace you’ll be brought back to the course content area where you’ll see the newly-created link to the Peerceptiv assignment. It may be at the bottom of the list of assignments.
Important Note: For full functionality, you need to open Peerceptiv in a new tab. The best way to do this is to click on the small down arrow after the assignment title. Then select Edit Properties In-place.
Next, put a check in the box by Open as External Resource. This will always open the assignment in a new tab, for both instructors and students.
Students will need to open the Peerceptiv assignment in a new tab as well for optimum viewing experience.
If you choose to add a due date, we recommend choosing the same date as your submission deadline. However, you should either leave the end date blank or make sure it is well after the feedback deadline and after results will be released so that students can continue to access the assignment for as long as is needed. In general, we do not recommend adding restrictions to Peerceptiv assignments in D2L.
The screen shot below shows what the assignment link will look like in Brightspace after it is created. All users, both instructors and students, will click on the assignment link to be taken directly to that assignment in Peerceptiv.
Click on the newly-created assignment link.
The first time you create a Peerceptiv assignment in a Brightspace course, if you have not yet created a course, you’ll be taken to your course creation page. Choose New Course and complete all Peerceptiv-side course settings and click Create a New Course. Please do not copy a course, even if you have used a course in Peerceptiv before, because you are copying at the assignment level.
Then, close the Peerceptiv tab and click back in from the Brightspace assignment link.
Now, you should be taken to the assignment creation page. You can choose to Use a Standard Workflow, Build Your Own Assignment or Copy an Assignment. When finished, be careful not to create additional assignments on the Peerceptiv side unless you have clicked in from a corresponding Brightspace assignment link.
When the assignment has been published on the Peerceptiv side, make sure that it has also been published in Brightspace.
When students first access this link, they'll be automatically added to the student roster within Peerceptiv.
Important Note: Peerceptiv does not function well with some assignment restrictions or release conditions. If possible, please refrain from putting restrictions or release conditions on Peerceptiv assignments in Brightspace by D2L.
Add Peerceptiv Deadlines to the Brightspace Calendar
Peerceptiv sends notifications to students about newly-published assignments, assignment deadlines, and when the assignment results are available if you check the Peerceptiv advanced assignment settings box to send email notifications. If you want to add the deadlines to the Brightspace calendar as well so students can see the deadlines within Brightspace, please do the following:
1. Go to the Brightspace calendar (Course Tools and then select Calendar) and create an event. We recommend using the submission deadline as the event in a peer assessment assignment. Use the same title as the assignment title and the first deadline as the event deadline. Please direct students to click on the assignment link in Brightspace to access Peerceptiv. We do NOT recommend including restrictions because this may block students from accessing the assignment after the first deadline has passed.
2. There are two options for any additional deadlines you want to include. You could use the Add Recurrence feature to include additional deadlines or create an event for each assignment phase. The other options is to create an announcement that is sent to students 24 hours before any deadline(s). Please direct students to click on the assignment link in Brightspace to access Peerceptiv.
Adding Peerceptiv reminders to the Brightspace calendar is optional and will not affect the connection between the Brightspace content and the Peerceptiv assignment or the Peerceptiv notifications.
