This article is designed to give you a brief overview of the Peerceptiv peer assessment process.
The 3 Basic Steps of the Peerceptiv Peer Assessment Process
Peerceptiv peer assessment is a simple process of uploading your submission into Peerceptiv, reviewing the work of your peers, and then reading your reviews and providing feedback on their helpfulness. You are graded on how accurately you rate others’ submissions and how helpful your comments are, in addition to the quality of work on your own assignment. This system has been validated to provide reliable grades over a dozen years of research.
If your instructor has set up the course in Sync Mode, there will be a set deadline for each phase of the assignment that students are expected to meet. After completing the assignment task(s) for that phase, you will need to wait until the next phase opens to continue working on the assignment. Students may not be able to complete an assignment task if a deadline is missed.
If your instructor has set up the course in Async Mode, there is a final deadline by which all assignment tasks must be completed. Students are able to complete the assignment tasks at their own pace. As soon as you submit, you will be able to begin the reviewing process. Once someone has reviewed your submission, you can give feedback. After completing all required submission, reviewing, and feedback tasks, you will get your results on the assignment even if the final deadline has not yet passed.
On the Course Overview page (which you can access at any time by clicking the Peerceptiv logo in the top left corner of the navy bar), you’ll be able to see a list of your assignments and the due date for each phase of the assignment. Typically, you will see that the submission deadline is first, followed by the reviewing deadline, and finally the feedback deadline. Your instructor decides how long you will have to complete each step of the assignment process and may also choose not to include the feedback phase. Use the course overview page to keep track of your assignment deadlines.
If you are in an Async Mode course, you will be able to track your progress and status in each assignment from this page. The icons show your progress on an assignment and the button on the far right lets you click into that assignment task. If no tasks are available at this time, that will be indicated as well.
To view an individual assignment, click the name of the assignment. Click “Open” to view the full assignment description or click “Rubric” to see the assignment expectations. On the Assignment Dashboard, you’ll be able to intuitively follow which step you’re in, and what’s coming next. Tasks that are currently available will be highlighted and upcoming tasks will be grayed out with a locked symbol. Until a task is available, it will be shown in gray and you will not be able to click on that button. In the screen below, the Submit action is blue and says “Next Task”, indicating that it is the next task that needs to be completed. The due date for the active task is listed as well.
