Note: If you are using Peerceptiv in an LMS, please always start by creating an assignment link in your LMS first, and then use that link to access Peerceptiv.
The directions that follow explain using the 'Build a custom assignment' settings to create an assignment where the instructor uploads one or more submissions. Students review the submission(s). These assignments used to be called ‘training assignments’ and are typically used for case studies or activities where the instructor wants all the students to see the same exemplars.
1. Select Build a Custom Assignment then Peer Assessment and click Next in the bottom right. For Who Submits? select Instructor. Click Next and Submit.
2. Set up the assignment:
a. Fill in the Assignment Name and Description. Click Next to navigate through the assignment set-up process.
b. Choose the submission type and set the number of reviews per student to equal the number of documents you plan to submit. If you want students to view one positive and one negative exemplar, set it to 2 reviews per student. If you only plan to submit one file so everyone is viewing the same thing, keep it at 1. If you submit more documents than the required number of reviews, not all students will see all documents.
c. Choose if the grades should be released automatically or if the instructor will manually release them.
d. For 'Grade Weight,' you can keep the weights at 60% review (how accurately they rate) and 40% task (if they complete the required review/s). You can increase the task grade weight if you want the focus of the assignment to be on completing the review(s) rather than the quality of those reviews.
Note: If you set the assignment to 1 required review, you should set the task grade to 80-100% and the reviewing grade to 0-20%. With only one document for review, the accuracy scores are not as valid and reliable as they are when there are multiple documents for review.
e. Set the publication date and review date. Note: You must upload the submission(s) before publishing the assignment.
f. We recommend that you keep the advanced settings. Click Next and then Finish to create the assignment.
3. Upload the submission(s).
a. On the assignment dashboard screen, click Submit.
b. The next screen reminds you of how many submissions need to be made. Click New Submission to start the process.
c. Choose the submission type and submit the file, link, or text. Check that everything is correct and click Confirm and Submit and then Done.
d. Repeat this process until you have submitted the number of required submissions for this assignment. The number of submissions should equal the number of reviews done by each student. If you upload more than the required number of submissions, students will not see all of the submissions.
e. When you are done with submissions, click Dashboard to return to the assignment dashboard.
Instructor Upload Assignment Reminders:
- You must build a rubric for the assignment before it will be published. You can read about how to build a rubric here. If you are including the reviewing score as part of the grade, then the rubric should ideally have at least 5 rating prompts.
-
Student grades in instructor upload assignments consist of the task grade (did they complete all required reviews) and accuracy.
- If there is only one required review, then accuracy may not be accurate or valid and should not be a significant part of the student’s grade.
- There is no helpfulness component to instructor upload assignments.
- You must upload the submissions for review before the assignment will be published. The documents and the rubric should not be changed after publication.
