A group formation assignment uses a survey to gather student information and creates optimized student groups based on the survey responses.
Click the Group Survey button to begin the survey.
The survey questions are created and/or approved by your instructor and are specific for your course. Some of the questions may be weighted more heavily than others and the questions may group students based on either similar or dissimilar answers. It’s important to answer the questions as truthfully as you can.
Schedule Question
You may see a schedule question. In courses with students from many different time zones, please complete the schedule question according to your availability in your course or university time zone. Additionally, please check as many time slots as possible and do not limit your schedule only to a select few preferred time slots. It will be easier to create appropriate and optimized groups if students have greater schedule availability.
Ranking Question
You may see a question which asks you to rank items in order, for example, topic preferences. In this type of question, you’ll need to click each item and rank order all items.
Multiple Choice Questions
You may see multiple choice questions. For these questions, you can only select one response. You may be grouped with other students who select similar responses or you may be grouped with other students who select different responses, depending on what your instructor has chosen. It’s important to answer truthfully so that you are placed with other students whose choices are best aligned with your honest responses.
Complete and Edit Survey Responses
When the survey is complete, you will see a button that says “Group Formation Survey Complete.” If you click that button, you are able to view and edit your survey responses. To return to the main Dashboard, click Dashboard. After you have returned to the dashboard, you can view and edit your survey responses at any time by clicking the Groups tab on the left and then clicking the “Group Formation Survey Complete” button.
View Results
You will be able to see your results for the assignment after the final assignment deadline has passed. Please note that Peerceptiv will generate groups based on student survey responses, but your instructor has final approval and may rearrange group membership before releasing the results.
Click the View Results button on the dashboard.
Your overall grade is based on whether or not you completed the survey. If you completed the survey, you will get 100% and if you did not, you will get 0%.
Your group member names will be listed.
The scheduler will indicate when your group is most likely available to meet. If there isn’t one time when all members are available, then use the data available to narrow it down and select time slots amongst yourselves.
You may see average and anonymous responses for the ranked choice and multiple choice questions. Depending on the number of questions in the survey and whether your instructor chose to group you by similar or dissimilar answers, you may notice that your group mates chose different answers than you did or that you didn’t all get your top choice for the topic questions. You should trust that the groups were optimized for all responses in the best possible arrangement, even if the data presented doesn't seem obvious or clear.
