In Peerceptiv, reviewing a submission involves using a rubric to rate the quality of the work and provide comments letting your peer know what they did well and how they can improve. The review process has been shown to improve learners' critical analysis and the quality of their finished work. In other words, thinking critically about your peers' work will help you recognize ways to make your own work better.
Peerceptiv rubrics typically consist of comment prompts and rating prompts. Comment Prompts ask you to provide qualitative, written comments on peer submissions. Rating Prompts ask you to select the level and description that best describes how that aspect of the submission performs according to the rubric. For every assignment, you have a certain required number of reviews to complete by the end of the reviewing deadline. In order for you to receive credit for the review, you must respond to ALL of the comment and rating prompts before pressing Submit.
Step-by-Step Reviewing Guide
- Open Peerceptiv and go to the assignment dashboard for the current assignment. You can click Rubric if you want to view the evaluation criteria before beginning the review.
- When you are ready, click Start Review 1. If you are the very first person to submit to this assignment, you may need to wait until a submission is available, but most people will be able to begin reviewing immediately.
-
View the submission on the left. Read the prompt and enter your response.
- Comments: Type your response in the box below the prompt. You can see the word count and you may have a required word count minimum. Remember that your comments should address the prompt and be as specific and constructive as possible to provide the most helpful feedback. For more reviewing advice, read Be a Helpful Reviewer.
If you would like to pin your comment to a specific location in the document or video that you're reviewing, click the pin icon in the bottom right corner of the comment box and drop it in the submission at the desired location. If there is no pin icon available, then the pin feature is not enabled for that submission, but you can still leave a comment by typing in the box.

Be a Helpful Reviewer
Write Helpful Comments
Offer Praise: Mention the strengths of the assignment. You are trying to help your peers improve their work, not evaluate them as a person.Be specific: Be precise about where particular problems occur and how the submission can be improved. Include actionable suggestions for improvement.
Rate Accurately
-
The most helpful action you can take is to rate the submission accurately according to the rubric.
-
Be careful to read the rating descriptions fully and assign ratings that match up with what is in your peer's work.
-
Giving someone a higher (or lower) rating than they deserve is not helpful to the peer you are reviewing.
Reflect on the Process
Consider what aspects of your own work you want to improve:
What aspect of your own work can improve as a result of your reviews?
-
What can you take away from each review that allows you to improve your current skills or become a better communicator?
