Team Member Evaluation allows learners to anonymously rate and comment about the contributions of other group members. Group members will rate each other's professionalism, communication, content knowledge and skills, work ethic, and overall contribution. Instructors have the option to edit, delete, or add to these categories to make the evaluation a better match for the assignment or skills being assessed by the team members. You can use Team Member Evaluation as part of a Peerceptiv group submission assignment or by itself.
If you are creating a stand-alone Team Member Evaluation, use the directions that correspond to your LMS or log in to Peerceptiv. Note: If you are using an LMS, you must create the assignment in the LMS first for single sign-on and grade pass back to occur.
If this is the first time you are using Peerceptiv in the course, you will need to create a new course.
After your course is created, go to Assignments on the top right and create a new assignment. Name it and add the assignment description. Choose Team Eval Only as the assignment type (see below):
Then, set the deadlines and advanced settings for the evaluation and press Submit.
If you are creating an Evaluation as part of an assignment, you should first follow the directions found here for setting up a Peerceptiv assignment. As you go through the assignment wizard, set the Assignment Type as Group Submission.
On the Reviewing screen of the assignment wizard, set Enable Team Member Evaluation to Yes.
Students will be able to complete the Team Member Evaluation from the end of the submission window until the end of the back-evaluation window.
Go to Point 4 to read about how to set up groups and Point 5 to change the Team Member Evaluation rubric.
IMPORTANT: You must have students in the class in order to create groups. Learn about adding students to your course.
Once you have created the assignment and added students to your class, return to the Assignment Overview screen. You can click on Group Members to assign students to groups, or students can self-populate their own groups.
Instructors or students can create groups by clicking on Group Members and then following the directions. Instructors can use the Spreadsheet Upload method to quickly and easily transfer groups from an LMS into Peerceptiv. Students can create a group that they are a part of if they have the email address of all group members. Instructors can always view the groups and add, switch, or delete group members.
Note 1: For Team Member Evaluation assignments that are linked to an assignment: Groups should be set up before the submission deadline passes in order for students to correctly complete the remaining steps of the Peerceptiv process.
Note 2: For Team Member Evaluation without a linked Peerceptiv assignment, groups must be set before the Team Member Evaluation begins. Failure to do so may result in having to re-evaluate team members in order for everyone to give and receive evaluations.
- Click Open Team Eval from the Assignment Overview screen.
- Once you have clicked that you want to launch Team Member Evaluation, the standard evaluation overview will appear. You can choose to keep, edit, or delete any of these criteria. To edit a criteria, click on the pencil icon of that criteria. To delete a criteria, click on the trash can with an X.
- When you click on Edit or Add New, the criteria editor will open. From here you can add or edit the Criteria Name, Description and Rubric.
NOTE: The criteria description should describe the behavior that you want students to measure. For the best category descriptions, provide several specific behaviors for students to evaluate.
- After you have all of your criteria set up, you can click the Peerceptiv logo to return to the Assignment Overview screen. On that screen you have the option to immediately publish the assignment, or you can wait until the publication date and time to have the assignment automatically publish.
Instructors can view the live results as soon as learners begin to evaluate each other. You also have the ability to download the results as an Excel or .CSV file. View results by clicking Open Team Eval from the Assignment Overview screen and then View Results from the right hand menu.
Team Member Evaluation is set up so that it contributes to the task completion grade. In other words, whether Team Member Evaluation is added as the last step of a group assignment or as a stand-alone assignment, students will be evaluated only on their completion of the Team Member Evaluation task and not their document score or reviewing score.
If the Team Member Evaluation assignment is set up within the organization's LMS, a completion grade will pass back to the LMS grade book. Students can access their comments (seen without the commenter's name attached) and average ratings by going into the Peerceptiv assignment. Instructors can download the full results (average ratings and comments) and use those to inform the grades in their grade book however they choose.
