This article will describe how to allow late submissions, set up late penalties, and waive late penalties in Peerceptiv.
Please note: Be careful not to set up late penalties in Peerceptiv AND in your LMS course or students may have double penalties. It is best to set up penalties in either Peerceptiv or the LMS, but not both.
How to Allow Late Submissions and Set Up Late Penalties
If you have used a Peerceptiv assignment workflow or if you have copied an assignment that was set up on our legacy site and did not have a late penalty, then late submissions are automatically allowed and the late penalty is set to 0. To set late penalties or edit your late penalty, click the gear icon on the assignment dashboard and click Edit to edit the settings. When you get to Step 6: Grading, there will be the option to edit the late penalty. The late penalty can only be set in whole percentage point increments and will accrue each day that the student submission is late. The late penalty will be deducted from the submission grade. Students can upload late submissions until 24 hours before the reviewing deadline.
If you select to Build a Custom Assignment, then you can choose whether or not to allow late submissions and/or to enable late penalties in the assignment creation wizard.
If you select “Yes” to allow late submissions and “Yes” to apply late penalties, then you will be prompted to adjust the point value for the penalty in the setting customization.
Students can upload late submissions until 24 hours before the reviewing deadline if late submissions are allowed.
How to View and Waive Late Penalties
You can view late submissions and late penalties after the assignment is over by going to the Results tab and scrolling down to see the Individual Assignment Grades table. Sort the table by clicking the Late Submissions button. The clock icon in the table will indicate a late submission. Hover over the clock icon to see how many percentage points were taken for the penalty. If there was no penalty, it will say “No Penalty.”
Click on the clock icon or any student’s name in the table to be taken to their student progress screen. If they had a late penalty, there will be a button to waive the penalty on the student progress overview tab. Click waive penalty to eliminate the penalty. After waiving late penalties, you should click the Recalculate Results button in the Results Controls area to resend the updated grades to the LMS (if results were already released, this will overwrite the results with the updated grades). The new grades will not be sent to the LMS if you do not recalculate the grades.
